U-District Movers for the September Crunch
Brooklyn Ave tower with an elevator window, 17th Ave house with a room on the fourth floor, studio off the Ave that has to be empty by the 31st. We move students and everyone else, and September is our busiest month here.
The U-District moves on a calendar. Leases end in late August and early September, UW fall quarter starts at the end of the month, and for about three weeks the whole neighborhood is on the sidewalk with a mattress. We come over from Kirkland in 20 minutes on SR-520 through Montlake, run a 2-man crew at $119 per hour with the truck included, and take 10% off for students and military with code HUSKY all September.

Moving in the U-District: towers, Greek Row, and the Montlake approach
The neighborhood has two kinds of buildings now. The new towers along Brooklyn Ave NE and 12th Ave NE have freight elevators with reservation sheets, loading zones that fill up fast, and front desks that expect movers to have read the rules. The old houses on Greek Row and up 17th, 18th, and 19th Ave NE have narrow stairs, lofted bedrooms, and street parking inside one of the city's oldest Restricted Parking Zones. We handle the tower paperwork ahead of time and scout the house blocks for a truck-sized spot. Getting here is usually easy, except when it isn't: the Montlake Bridge opens for boats, the SR-520 work around Montlake and Portage Bay shifts lanes every few months, and on Husky home-game Saturdays Montlake Blvd turns into a parking lot from noon on. We route through NE 45th or come down Roosevelt on those days, and we start early. The Ave is narrow and full of buses, so we stage a block off on Brooklyn or 15th.
Junk removal in the U-District
Student move-outs leave a predictable pile: a mattress, a futon, a particleboard desk, a mini fridge, a floor lamp, and a monitor that doesn't turn on. We price by truck space, carry included: single item $89–$139, quarter truck $349–$499, half truck $649–$899, full 16-ft truck $1,299–$1,599. Electronics are $89 as a standalone pickup or $59 added to any load. A four-bedroom house on 19th Ave NE last September gave us the classic: four mattresses, two couches, a broken bed frame, a TV, and the porch furniture. That was a half truck, $649–$899, one bill the roommates split four ways, and the landlord's cleaner walked in an hour later. Anything reusable goes to donation, which in this neighborhood is most of it. If it's a single mattress out of a fourth-floor room, that's $89–$139, no stair fee. Text a photo to (206) 609-5581 and we'll price it in minutes, and code FIRSTHAUL takes $25 off your first haul.
HUSKY, timing, and the lease flip
For three weeks every September the U-District runs out of movers, trucks, and elevator slots at the same time. We keep more of our calendar open for this neighborhood in September than anywhere else, and we run 8am to 10pm every day of the crunch. The HUSKY code takes 10% off moving or junk removal for anyone with a student or military ID, all month. Booking early matters more than the discount: elevator windows in the Brooklyn Ave towers get claimed weeks ahead, and the last few days of the month are the hardest to get. If you're flexible, the cheapest move here is a weekday morning in the second week, after the first wave and before the quarter starts. Parents driving in from out of state: text us the building, the unit, and the elevator confirmation, and we'll do the rest. Rated 4.9 stars from 32 Google reviews, and a good share of them are students. Call or text (206) 609-5581.
